Male breast cancer

Did you know that every year, about 25 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in New Zealand? It is the same disease that affects women, as all men have breast tissue behind their nipples, which have the potential for cancerous change.

In this webinar, our expert panel discuss the signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and risk factors for male breast cancer as well as their personal experiences with the disease.

Meet your panel

Greg Sargeaunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2016. He shares his experiences, from diagnosis to treatment, how he navigated treatment and the health system, and what he would have done differently.

Mr Wayne Jones is an experienced breast surgeon based in Auckland, where he works in both public and private practice. He will give a general overview of male breast cancer, including the signs and symptoms, and will share his knowledge on how it is diagnosed and treated.

Judith Beattie is one of the specialist breast nurses at Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. She will discuss genetic risk for men, how to access genetic testing, as well as how to cope with a diagnosis. She will also give some tips on how to navigate the health system and will talk about the support services available through the Foundation that help breast cancer patients through their recovery.
