Information about childcare can be difficult to find, so it's always worth doing a local search and talking to other parents. Below you'll find suggestions available across the country.
Childcare centres can be flexible if you tell them you're undergoing breast cancer treatment. They may be able to temporally increase your child's hours or speak to other parents about helping with drop off and pick up.
Nanny schools offer free placement of their students to families who have two or more children. This can help as the student can play with the children and organise meals for them.
Childcare Subsidy: This is available for pre-school children aged under five years (or under six years if you get the Child Disability Allowance) attending an approved early childhood programme.
OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation) Subsidy: This is available for children five to 13 years old (or up to 18 years if you receive the Child Disability Allowance). It helps towards the costs of before-school and after-school care, and school holiday programmes for up to 50 hours a week.
mybc - ask the mybc community what childcare they could access.
Check in with your hospital social worker, they may have advice about local groups.

Are you ready to discover what life after cancer could be like?
Nobody tells us that post treatment maybe even harder than during cancer. Laurinda's passion is for you to take back that control of your life, feel less isolated and know how to move forward with your "new normal".
Some chemotherapies cause temporary hair loss. Your oncologist will let you know if you're likely to benefit from scalp cooling (reduce hair loss). While automated scalp cooling systems prevent hair loss related to chemotherapy, they're not available in all parts of New Zealand. A cold cap is an alternative which will minimise hair loss caused from some chemotherapies that are associated with mild or moderate hair loss, such as weekly taxanes.
The two types of cold caps that New Zealand patients buy are Icekap and Penguin Cold Caps. They need to be purchased online so you'll need at least a week for delivery. It's important to do your research because scalp cooling can be fiddly and you need to know you can manage this and that it's right for you, before you purchase a cap.
Chemokit is designed for convenience. It's a new addition to the range of cold caps available. Please check with your oncologist if this is okay to use and feel free talk to the BCFNZ nurses if you want to discuss if this right for you and the treatment you're having.
Based in Australia, but can order online with shipping to NZ.
BCFNZ provides a small range of products that support comfort following surgery. If you or someone you know has breast cancer surgery planned, ask our nurses about our wonderful heart shaped pillows, drain bags and seatbelt covers.
Counselling & Arts Therapy Arts therapy connects you with your deeper emotions, as humans we are more likely to work in an unedited and unfiltered way when working creatively. This means that we may be able to move to the heart of the matter quicker than talking alone.
During your sessions, you may be invited to use collage, drawing, painting, sculpture, creative writing, clay work, movement, and more, to connect with and express your inner world.
If you think of yourself as not a creative person, that is ok. Using art in therapy is focussed on the process of creating and meaning making, not about the end product. It can be effective for everyone, young and old.
Some sessions may not use art making. We may focus on talking, and that is ok too.

Being able to offer some help to make someone feel better and beautiful after such a life changing event and journey is incredibly rewarding.

Available in: South Auckland, West Auckland, Central Auckland, East Auckland, North Auckland
I work within a trauma-informed, person-centred, solution focused, strengths based framework, and focus on assisting clients to express feelings that are difficult to verbalise, work through problems, recover from trauma, change self destructive behaviour, and to find direction, resolution and healing.
