If you have to stop work for treatment, you may be eligible for the Jobseeker Allowance or the Supported Living Allowance. You may also be eligible for these allowances if you're working part-time or have to withdraw from study. Work and Income will also be able to guide you if you're eligible for childcare support. If you're unwell and unable to manage an appointment with Work and Income, it is possible to appoint a family member to act as your agent.  

If you're receiving a benefit from Work and Income, you may be entitled to additional allowances. You should ask if you're entitled to:

• Accommodation Supplement - support with rent or cost of owning your home.
• Community Services Card - if you have a low income or on a benefit, this card reduces the cost of health services.
• Special Needs Grant - WINZ may support additional, unexpected costs.
