Switching on pink lights to raise awareness about breast cancer
The 1st of October marked the first day of breast cancer awareness month, with different landmarks around New Zealand taking part in the international Global Illumination Campaign.
“We are so grateful to all these landmarks for lending their support this year,” says Evangelia Henderson, chief executive of Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. “They give such a wonderful visual reminder that every woman should be breast-aware.”
The campaign runs for the entire month of October and strategically aligns with the foundation’s major fundraising event, the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal, which takes place on the 13th and 14th of October.
Money raised through BCFNZ’s Pink Ribbon Street Appeal and through community fundraising events around the country will fund research into new targeted treatments, life-saving awareness initiatives and education programmes, and support New Zealanders going through breast cancer.
